Lenovo’s new entry into the handheld gaming market is the Lenovo Legion Go S. The device can be launched with SteamOS, Valve’s Linux-based operating system. Compared to the Steam Deck, Legion Go S is very competitive since its underlying hardware can win many gamers, especially concerning very good performance and great flexibility.
Hardware Highlights
The screen is 8 inches on the Legion Go S, an LCD with a resolution of 1920×1200 and a refresh rate at 120Hz. That’s not even in the neighborhood of the Steam Deck OLED, but it would offer sharper visuals and smoother motion than any other option.
Under the hood, it packs an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme CPU that can hit 3.3GHz across eight cores, supported by up to 32GB of RAM. Storage options are robust, with a PCIe Gen4 SSD offering up to 1TB of space. This configuration ensures smoother gameplay and faster load times for demanding titles.
Design and Features
Coming in at 740g, the Legion Go S is a bit heavier than Valve’s Steam Deck OLED doesn’t have touchpads, but it gets LED-lit analog sticks for better control and is fixed to the device. The Nebula Violet color option gives it a visually unique appearance from Valve’s hardware.
Other connections include two USB4 ports, a microSD slot, and an audio jack on the 3.5mm side. Compared to the Steam Deck, that makes this an adequate option as well. There’s also a 55.5Whr battery. Recharge should take just shy of half an hour when hooked into a 65W USB-C adapter.

This particular running SteamOS is scheduled for April 2025. Those willing to wait longer can try a Windows-based handheld from Lenovo. It will appear in Glacier White later this month, costing €629.
